RENOLUTION grants: what to prepare before the works start

Since 2022 the RENOLUTION grants have merged the former energy, renovation and façade grants in the Brussels-Capital Region. Amounts, conditions and the list of covered works are set by Brussels Environment and revised every year: this piece explains the method, not the amounts. Always check the current scales on renolution.brussels.

The rule that loses the most files

In most cases the application is filed after the final invoice, but the supporting documents must have been assembled before the works. In practice: dated photographs of the initial condition, taken from an angle that clearly shows the area concerned. Without them, a technically faultless file can be refused.

What to gather

  • Photographs of the initial condition, before anything is removed.
  • An itemised quote stating areas, thicknesses and material performance (R value of insulation, Uw of windows).
  • Itemised invoices repeating the same lines as the quote — a single "renovation" invoice is systematically rejected.
  • Contractor certificates for certain items, plus registration and any accreditations.
  • Depending on the case, a prior energy audit or the EPB certificate.

Taking the works in the right order

The principle remains the logical order of energy retrofit: insulate the roof, then the walls and floors, ventilate properly, and only then replace the heating system. The grants follow that logic and some are conditional on a prior level of insulation.

Household income counts

Amounts are adjusted by income bracket, and the applicant's status (owner-occupier, landlord, co-ownership) changes the conditions. For co-ownerships, some applications are filed by the owners' association: that means a general meeting, to be anticipated months in advance.

Our role

We are neither auditors nor approved advisors, and we do not file applications on your behalf. What we do: quotes and invoices written in the expected format, before-works photographs taken from the first visit, and technical certificates provided without you having to ask.
